The Deutsche Akkreditierungsstelle GmbH (DAkkS) is the national accreditation body for the Federal Republic of Germany, with headquarters in Berlin. It assesses, attests and monitors the technical competence of calibration laboratories as an independent body.
To be accredited to ISO 17025 a calibration laboratory has to demonstrate personel and measuring competence. Likewise high standards concerning technical and constructional facilities have to be provided.
An accredited calibration laboratory is entitled to perform calibrations within the accredited measurands and measurement ranges and to issue an internationally recognized calibration certificate.
In a calibration laboratory accredited to ISO 17025 not only the measuring instruments are traceable to national standards. Further quality assurance measures like participation in laboratory intercomparisons are mandatory and contribute to the fact that DAkkS calibration certificates mean surely one thing: measurement at the highest level.
