Battery measurement module for automated production testing

High-performance and safe battery cells thanks to 100% inline control

Combining several identical battery cells into a battery pack presents the same challenges as a chain, which, as we all know, is only as strong as its weakest link. In the series production of batteries for e-mobility, large storage systems, communication electronics or ground vehicles, tens of thousands of cells sometimes have to be tested individually at maximum speed and precision. Only cells with the same mechanical properties may be assembled to optimise storage and durability and meet the highest quality requirements. The measurement technology specialists at burster now offer a new, fieldbus-capable high-speed battery measurement module for automatic production testing of high-performance battery modules and battery packs made from round, prismatic or pouch cells for series production. The compact 2511 module is suitable for use in harsh industrial environments directly on the production line and is designed for single or multi-channel operation. In just a few milliseconds, the all-in-one device can test up to five individual cells simultaneously and determine and evaluate significant battery parameters using AC and DC internal resistance measurement and battery voltage measurement. Intuitive PC software for parameterisation and configuration via Ethernet/USB allows flexible measuring and evaluation modes for 100% inline testing in series production.

Customise test parameters

The 2511 battery measurement module determines various electrical parameters using the four-wire measurement method with maximum precision. The parameters can then be combined into specific test programmes. Although the impedance measurement is typically carried out at 1 kHz, the ranges 1 Hz, 20 Hz and 100 Hz are also possible in addition. The resistance measurement range is 0 to 10 mOhm, 0 to 30 mOhm or 0 to 100 mOhm; the open circuit and module voltage measurement covers the ranges 0 to 5 VDC. The temperature can be measured in the range from -40 to +80 °C. Batteries and battery packs can therefore also be tested under extreme conditions if required. Various cabinets and mounting variants allow the IP54 modules to be flexibly integrated into practically any production process via Profinet. For intensive quality control or troubleshooting, e.g. in development, additional measurement modules are available in the form of the 2550 battery controller or the 2560 battery tester.

All components are compatible with proven burster products. From the entire range of high-precision sensors to RESISTOMAT resistance measuring devices, measuring amplifiers/fieldbus controllers and DIGIFORCE evaluation units, the entire programme for battery measurement technology is perfectly coordinated and delivers highly accurate measurement results within the shortest cycle times.

About burster

Whether individual measurement components or system solutions, burster mainly supplies users in mechanical and plant engineering, automation, automotive engineering with suppliers, electrical engineering, electronics and the chemical industry. The portfolio includes measuring and testing devices as well as standard sensors for mechanical and electrical measured variables, such as force, compression, torque and displacement sensors and milli and megohmmeters or resistance decades. Individual, customised OEM solutions are also possible, e.g. for many other industries and future markets such as medical technology and biotechnology. Many years of experience in the construction of metrological devices and sensors always guarantees optimised solutions. Sensors, amplifier and transmitter modules, precision measuring devices and measuring systems for sensor signal processing are supplied to customers all over the world from the development and production site in Germany.
