Calibration resistor (shunt)


During shunt calibration, a precision resistor (calibration resistor, also known as a shunt) is connected in parallel with one leg of the load-cell bridge circuit. This precision resistor is used to deliberately detune the measuring bridge and hence produce a calibration offset. A change in the calibration offset over the lifetime of the sensor can indicate possible sensor damage. Shunt calibration has a tolerance in the single-digit percentage range.
