With the RESISTOMAT® model 2316 milliohmmeter, fast and accurate measurements of the smallest resistances are possible. Thanks to the robust aluminium injection-moulded housing with membrane keypad, this device is designed both for laboratory use and for tough industrial applications.
Wires and coils can be measured with temperature compensation. For this purpose, the temperature of the test object is measured with a Pt100 or pyrometer and the resistance is calculated in the device to e.g. 20 °C (adjustable).

The range of applications is very versatile, e.g. measurement of

  • Transformer motor windings
  • All types of coils
  • Cables and wires on the drum or as a metre sample
  • Switch and relay contacts
  • Heating elements
  • Fuses
  • Terminals and transitions on mounting rails and much more.

The device works according to the proven 4-wire measuring method, whereby lead and contact resistances are eliminated. Thermal voltages that may be present in the measuring circuit are also automatically compensated by the measuring method. The test leads are monitored using the integrated cable break detection function.

Temperature compensation for any test specimen materials such as copper, aluminium, brass, tungsten and so on is a matter of course. The temperature is recorded via an external Pt100 sensor or an external infrared measuring device (accessory). A special measuring input protection has been developed for measuring large inductive test specimens to prevent voltage peaks from damaging the device when the test specimen is disconnected.

If there is a need to test DUTs with different parameters in an automatic measuring system, up to 16 device settings such as measuring range, limit values, temperature coefficient and so on can be saved. All device-specific settings are shown on the display. The settings can be called up via the keypad or via the PLC interface with a bit pattern (4 bits). Of course, all device settings can also be made via the available interfaces.

A high-contrast LCD display with backlighting has been used for the measured value display, which allows the measured value to be read very clearly in both dark and bright rooms.

Clamping devices for stranded copper cables, aluminium and copper wires

  • Measuring range 1 μΩ ... 200 kΩ
  • Accuracy ±0.03 % Rdg. ±3 counts
  • PLC control
  • Dual-comparator for OK/NOK evaluation of the device under test
  • Temperature-compensated measurement

TASK

During stator manufacture, the stator wire is crimped into the connecting pin after winding. Crimping can cause wire breakage or the crimping process may not be performed correctly, resulting in a higher resistance. The crimping process requires 100% testing.

SPECIFIC REQUIREMENT

  • Rapid OK/NOK evaluation of the stator
  • Simultaneous testing of two separate windings in the stator
  • High-speed testing of an inductive device

Solution

The RESISTOMAT® 2316 measures the resistance values using the contact pins pressed onto the stator connecting pins, thereby ensuring 100% testing.
The test equipment is controlled via the production plant PLC.

Info: This application can also be solved with the RESISTOMAT® 2311.

RESISTOMAT® 2316

  • Measuring ranges 2.0000 mΩ ... 200.00 kΩ
  • Measuring accuracy 0.03 % Rdg.
  • Temperature compensation for all materials

Clamping device 2381

  • Cross sections 0.1 mm2 ... 100 mm2 up to 2500 mm2 possible
  • Adjustable clamp support up to 1000 mm measuring length

TASK

Specification testing of copper, aluminium or brass wires

SPECIFICATION REQUIREMENT

Several aspects must be considered when testing wires, such as

  • contact in four-wire technology
  • precise length determination
  • temperature compensation of test objects

Copper has a temperature coefficient of about 0.4 %/K, this means if not considering the temperature at an ambient temperature of e.g. 30 °C, the measured value will be 4 % too large (based on 20 °C).

SOLUTION

The combination of RESISTOMAT® 2316 and clamping device 2381 is ideally suited for wire cross-sections from 0.1 to 100 mm2. With the adjustable clamp support the measuring length can be varied up to 1000 mm. Although only 500 mm can be measured, the RESISTOMAT® can still show the resistance in ohms per meter. Clamping devices for larger cross-sections up 2500 mm2 are also available.

Branchen
Cable Industry

  • Resistance measurements in range 30 ... 50 mΩ at 0.03 % of measured value
  • Temperature coefficient taken into account
  • Protection against high induced voltages
  • Thermal-EMF compensation
  • PC port

Task

Very high accuracy is required for measuring the winding resistances of electric motors. It is important that the three windings are symmetrical, and resistance values typically equal around 40 mΩ. In this situation, care must also be taken to make proper contact with the connecting studs to avoid contact resistances.

Branchen
Automotive

  • Measuring ranges from 2 mΩ ... 200 kΩ
  • Easy-to-know, delivers spontaneous operation success
  • Highest precision at maximum price performance ratio
  • Simple handling by intuition
  • Sturdy, tough and nearly indestructible keys and housing
  • Menu speaks five languages

TASK

Verification of the coil resistance specification.

SPECIFIC REQUIREMENT

Measuring of low ohmic inductive test objects with compensation of the temperature coefficient of the specimen.

Input voltage protection for inductance voltages generated when the upon disconnection of the test object.

SOLUTION

By using a resistance measurement device from the RESISTOMAT® series temperature compensated coil resistances can be measured with respect to 20 °C. There is the possibility to measure the ambient temperature with a Pt100 temperature sensor or directly to measure the object temperature with an infrared sensor (pyrometer).

The input voltage protection of this instrument is designed for voltages up to 400 Vrms.
