DIGIFORCE® 9311 monitors processes in which precisely defined functional relationships between two process-relevant measured variables must be verified. For example, when recording and monitoring press-fit, assembling, riveting, punching or caulking processes: synchronised and fast measured value acquisition and evaluation with flexible evaluation elements is always the basis for reliable quality control. The DIGIFORCE® 9311 offers you a modern platform with extremely versatile fieldbus interfaces such as PROFINET, PROFIBUS and EtherNet/IP for customised integration into your control environment.

Even for purely manual workstations, such as force/displacement-monitored manual presses, DIGIFORCE® 9311 enables convenient yet cost-effective process monitoring with customised additional functions such as acknowledgement and interlock signals.

DIGIFORCE® 9311 supports Automatic sensor recognition with burster-TEDS. This allows an electronic data sheet in the sensor to be read automatically and the relevant data for the measuring channel configuration to be adopted. This prevents operating errors during set-up or servicing - so play it safe with burster-TEDS! DIGIFORCE® 9311 offers flexible solutions for processes in which measurement or curve data logging is required in addition to IO/NIO evaluation: in semi-automated and fully automated applications, logging can be performed either via the available fieldbuses without cycle time loss or via the Ethernet interface already provided as standard to a server, host or local PC. The DigiControl PC software supports this with an automatic, production-accompanying logging mode. Alternatively, fast data logging to a USB stick is also possible.

TASK

A process that uses crimping and rolling machines to join (crimp) rotationally symmetric components and assemblies in a form-fit needs to be monitored. Depending on the machine design, 4 to 16 jaw segments compress the components symmetrically to produce a form-fit. In addition to 100% monitoring of the form-fit, the system must also identify a possible failure of one or more crimping jaw segments during the crimping process.

SPECIFIC REQUIREMENT

It is essential to ensure strain relief between sleeve and cable and/or that the joints are both liquid-tight and gas-tight. Since safety-critical components are often involved, these production processes must be fully documented with 100% process monitoring.

SOLUTION

To monitor the crimping process, the force applied by the jaw segments to the material deformation is analysed as a force/time curve. The 8526 compression load cell is located in the lever and measures the pressing force. The DIGIFORCE® 9311 analyzes the force/time curve synchronously with the crimping process. Recording the force signal at this rapid speed is possible thanks to the instrument's high sampling rate. The servo-drive delivers constant and reproducible movement (displacement) and therefore the force signal is recorded as a pure force/time curve. The measured X/Y curve is monitored using the envelope evaluation element.

Any failure, breakage or wear of a jaw segment produces a significant change in the force/time curve characteristic. The synchronous recording by the DIGIFORCE® 9311 can help to guarantee zero-fault monitoring thanks to immediate evaluation of the crimping process and the output of an OK/NOK signal.

Task

As an alternative to fixed-contact power rails and busbars, backplanes with spring contacts enable individual testing and replacement of a battery’s cells. Dimensional accuracy and spring characteristics are critical to the quality of such contacts, so 100 % checking has to be carried out on each contact terminal.

Lösung

By means of an automatic X/Y positioning unit, each spring contact is positioned under an electrical linear actuator with a 8431/32 strain gage force sensor mounted on the front end, and a test stroke is initiated orthogonally to the spring contact. Depending on the design of the spring contact, a test stroke of typically only < 1 mm compression is performed within the permissible elastic spring deflection. The DIGIFORCE® 9307/9311 process monitoring can record the quality-relevant parameters of initial height h0, spring rate and hysteresis, and check them for compliance with tolerance specifications. An OK/NOK evaluation and measured values for reporting are made available at various interfaces.

Task

The requirement is to test the characteristic curve of micro-switches on the production line. This quality assurance measure requires a load cell with overall height and overload protection, which safeguards the load cell from damage caused by an inadmissibly high operating force in a faulty switch. A set-screw limiting the travel of the 8511 load cell provides overload protection. The measurement displacement is measured alongside the operating force, and the force/displacement curve analyzed by a DIGIFORCE® 9311 connected to the sensors.
