The sensor element is a double bending beam with applied strain gauges.

The changes in the ohmic resistance of the strain gauge full bridge caused by the applied measuring force are converted into an electrical voltage. The exact value (sensitivity) of the output voltage when the sensor is loaded with the nominal load is specified in the calibration protocol supplied.

The sensor is mounted with 2 screws on the side with the cable outlet. The opposite side is used to absorb the force (load).

If the nominal load is exceeded by approx. 20 % in the tension or compressive direction, further deflection of the bending beam is prevented by the mechanical stopper. This prevents damage due to permanent deformation of the sensor element.

Task

Venous cannulas are subject to the highest quality requirements during the manufacturing process. In the end-of-line test, the ease of movement of the steel intravenous needle is tested during full movement in the flexible cannula catheter. DIGIFORCE® 9307 records the force/displacement curves of two test specimens simultaneously and evaluates them. A gripper is applied to the two cannulas and performs a uniform forward/backward movement. Sensitive burster 8510 series bending beam load cells detect the low friction forces, which are evaluated in the DIGIFORCE® controller. The displacement signal is transferred directly from the actuator unit.

Task

The requirement is to test the characteristic curve of micro-switches on the production line. This quality assurance measure requires a load cell with overall height and overload protection, which safeguards the load cell from damage caused by an inadmissibly high operating force in a faulty switch. A set-screw limiting the travel of the 8511 load cell provides overload protection. The measurement displacement is measured alongside the operating force, and the force/displacement curve analyzed by a DIGIFORCE® 9311 connected to the sensors.
