This miniature load cell has been optimised in terms of its height and, at just 3.3 mm, is the thinnest known sensor with strain gauge technology. Barely higher than the diameter of its connection cable, it can be easily accommodated even in tight spaces. Along with its minimised geometry, the load cell is also particularly light. It has a high resonance frequency in order to follow rapidly changing load changes. Despite its extreme miniaturisation, it remains absolutely robust and suitable for industrial applications, not only with regard to the highly flexible cable connection or the complete welding of the sensors for the measuring ranges ≥ 0 ... 10 N.
The miniature compression load cells are flat, cylindrical discs whose underside is sealed with a cover. The central load insertion button for absorbing compressive forces is an integral part of the upper side, which is the measuring diaphragm of the sensor. The strain gauges are applied to its underside inside the cabinet and connected to form a Wheatstone full bridge. When force is applied, this sources an output voltage that is directly proportional to the measured variable.
The connection cable is routed radially out of the sensor housing and is stabilised in addition by a sleeve for measuring ranges ≥ 0 ... 10 N. The contact surface on the underside of the sensor is circular, but circular for the measuring range 0 ... 5 N.

Task
The need often arises to guide the forces through a load cell via the central axis. Practically any design can be produced, no matter what combination of measuring range and internal diameter of the measuring element is required. The principle is based on two axially aligned annular discs that have the desired internal diameter, with three load cells spaced at 120° around their surface. These load cells have been standardized to output the same electrical signal for easy operation and combined readout by instrumentation amps. The ideal measuring range of the overall system can be achieved by a suitable choice of load cells, and this is adjusted at final calibration.
Branchen

- Small measuring ranges
- Non-linearity < 0.25 % F.S.
- Ultra flat design
- Can be used for measurements in narrow apertures
Task
To adjust or test the anti-pinch protection on self-closing sliding doors or automatic windows, a measuring tool is needed that can also fit into narrow gaps. A tool matching this specification can be produced using the load cell measuring just 3.3 mm in height.
