The force to be measured must be applied axially and rectangularly in opposite directions over the entire surface of the inner and outer ring of the sensor body. The acting force is converted into an electrical output signal by strain gauges that are interconnected to form a full bridge.
In order to achieve optimum accuracy, the base surface of the sensor must be mounted on a ground, lapped and sufficiently dimensioned surface hardened to ≥ 58 HRC. The base cover welded to the contact surface has a stabilising effect on the sensor element. Lateral forces must nevertheless be avoided, as they will falsify the measurement result. Tension and bending relief for the sensor cable must be provided on the machine side.

- Measurement of press-in forces during an assembly process
- Precise determination of forces with the ring force sensor type 8438
- Multi-channel force measurement with up to 8 channels with one fieldbus interface
- EtherCAT, PROFINET and EtherNet/IP capable measuring system
Description
Battery trays must be carefully designed because they must protect the batteries, the heart of any electric vehicle, in the event of an accident. At the same time, it must be ensured that the battery trays can be opened if necessary, e.g. for maintenance of the battery cells. During the production of the battery trays, the bottom plate and the cover are connected by means of nuts. This connection must be secure, have guaranteed tightness, e.g. against dust, and be resistant to water pressure, as the battery cells are located in the space between them.
Special requirements
- High manufacturing quality of the battery trays
- Highest safety requirements
Solutions
Self-piercing nuts are used for the connection between the base plate and the cover. The press-fit process must have a 0-fault tolerance, which can be guaranteed with burster's process monitoring technology. The miniature ring force sensor 8438, which measures the press-in force, the potentiometric displacement sensor 8713, which determines the press-in displacement, and the combination of measuring amplifier 9250 and fieldbus controller 9251, which can be addressed with up to 8 measuring channels via a fieldbus interface and record and transmit the measured data, are used.

- Flat, disc-shaped design
- High pulsating and alternating loads
- Robust design
- Overload protection
Measuring task
Flight simulators with a total weight of approx. 12 tonnes must be securely mounted to the floor with their driven supports in the foundation. Their flexible movement in space creates pulsating loads in all three axes on the connecting elements to the foundation. The forces occurring must be measured in order to develop and monitor safe brackets and clear installation procedures.
Special requirements
The sometimes jerky movements of the drives - for example when simulating turbulence - result in high pulsating and alternating loads. Unavoidable transverse loads on screw connections must be absorbed for the measurement. Different materials to be connected, such as steel and concrete, also result in manufacturing tolerances that need to be compensated for.
Solution
A model 8438 ring load cell is integrated into the fasteners to measure the forces occurring in the clamping screws and not least in the dowel materials in the concrete. The ring load cell model 8438 is securely installed using surrounding mechanics such as a centring sleeve and sensor support. The ball socket/ball disc combination ensures even load distribution around the circumference of the load cell. To prevent mass grinding in the system, we recommend using an insulating disc in a suitable position.
Branchen

- Easy to fit and pace saving
- Robust design
- Internal hole measured to fit
- Good accessibility allowing quick and straightforward re-tensioning
Task
The tensions transferred by tie rods must be monitored constantly during installation, and quickly readjusted if necessary. This requires constant unobstructed access to the screw fastenings using large, typically hydraulic tools. It is a fundamental requirement on building sites that all components, including the load cell, are robust enough for the environment. Furthermore, it must be easy to remove the measuring device once construction has finished.
