The 8435 tension/compression load cell enables universal and quick installation, although it requires hardly any installation space and offers technical data that is often achieved by larger sensors. Thanks to its excellent price-performance ratio in terms of its mechanical and electrical data, the load cell finds its place in products that are also manufactured in large quantities and calculated on a small budget.
The measuring principle of this load cell model is based on proven strain gauge technology. Strain gauges are applied to the sensitive element and connected to form a full bridge, which increases its electrical resistance when force is applied and emits a bridge output voltage proportional to the measured variable. Two types of force application are possible with this design, either only compressive forces with the load insertion button or also tensile forces via the centric internal thread.
The measuring range 0 ... 5000 N is supplied exclusively with an integrated load insertion button. The sensors are to be mounted on flat contact surfaces with screws via three holes in the outer ring. In order to achieve optimum measurement accuracy, no lateral forces may act on the sensor. Strain relief for the connection cable in the sensor housing and bend protection are provided.

- Rugged construction
- Test equipment adds little extra weight
- Maximum possible safety for the pilot
TASK
During flight testing of a paraglider, the pilot flies through a program that includes standard flight situations and situations at the limits of flying capability. The flight test includes measuring the forces that the pilot has to exert during the flight to control and handle the paraglider in a range of situations. These forces are measured at a central point and recorded during the flight.
SPECIFIC REQUIREMENT
- Sensors must be waterproof as protection against fog or rain
- Simple and safe to handle during the flight
- Time-triggered data logging
- Low weight of complete equipment
SOLUTION
A burster 8435 load cell with pull plate is fitted in the shackle between the paraglider control lines and the pilot’s handle. The pull plate ensures that the tension forces to be measured are always directed solely along the axis of the device. The portable 7281 tester is carried in the pilot’s rucksack. This unit provides sensor excitation and uses a built-in data logger to record the measured values, which are read out and analysed by the DigiCal PC software after landing.
Branchen

- Simple screw mounting
- Inexpensive sensor from general stock
- Two sensors provide two-sided monitoring
- Force can also be displayed as a function of adjustment angle
TASK
The centre armrest of a car seat needs to be tested for ease of movement or in other words inherent resistance. This test involves measuring the force with which the armrest is moved during both upward and downward motion.
SPECIFIC REQUIREMENT
Reliable detection of dynamic and static friction values in the armrest pivot. Ascertaining the damping characteristics of the structure at each limit of travel.
SOLUTION
Two burster 8435-5500 load cells are mounted in a fork-shaped apparatus. This apparatus is driven and moves in parallel with the unit under test by rotating about a common axis. The two sensors each cover one direction to make separate measurements of the operating and adjustment forces required in each direction. To protect the readily painted and varnished armrest part under test, and to ensure that the force is applied reliably to the sensor, the part is fitted with specially designed load buttons. The screw-fit mounting of the load button means that it can be replaced quickly when the armrest model is changed.

DESCRIPTION
Finding the center of gravity of a utility vehicle fitted with crane boom enables safe operation and optimum handling of suspended loads. The sensor, fitted directly in the hydraulic support, meets the highest standards even under the toughest conditions of use.
Branchen

- Coiled cable section to prevent kinks
- Measurement accuracy 0.25 % F.S.
- Pull plate fitting to load cell
- Lightweight construction, so that its intrinsic weight has negligible effect on the measurement
Task
Plastic pipes for carrying liquids and gases around industrial buildings are often suspended under the ceiling structure, preferably with more than one pipe suspended from one fixing point. Trial and error is normally employed to find the ideal position for these fixing points, based on the diameter, length and shape of the pipes, temperature effects and the density of the fluid they are carrying. In this process, load cells can be used to record the various load conditions, which can be analyzed and included in the installation diagram. The load cells are equipped with burster TEDS and hence can be read repeatedly and successively by the portable indicator with ease.
Branchen

- Same geometry for all measuring ranges
- Good-value load cell
- Can be fitted in small spaces thanks to the sensor housing’s flange-type screw-fitting
Task
A gripper mounted on a measuring apparatus is to be used to fit tubes with caps, whose intrinsic weight must not be included in the measurement. The gripper must position, snap-fit and finally twist the cap securely in place. The load cell is fitted in the tool such that it is initially protected against axial overload while also being fully protected against lateral forces loads arising from imprecise centring, weight effects or accelerations on the pivoted fixing unit. The measurement must reproduce the short snap-fitting event reliably. Decoupling the mechanical connection prevents any torque transfer to the axis of the load cell.
