8400-B001Pedal load cell for pedal actuation forces
Flat, compact and precise! This load cell was specially developed for installation on pedals. It measures the applied forces directly, e.g. during braking tests, and enables precise assignment to the vehicle or machine reaction. With an overall height of only 17 mm and a diameter of less than 60 mm, it remains inconspicuous and adapts to almost any pedal shape - for precise measurements without impairing operation.

With its flat design, this load cell is specially designed to be mounted on pedals. This allows the forces that the operator applies for the respective action, for example braking tests, to be measured directly and assigned to the reaction of the vehicle or machine. This is used in real driving tests as well as in driving simulators. Although, due to the special design of the diaphragm, it does not matter whether the pedals are stationary or suspended. The sensor has been designed as far as possible so that unavoidable lateral forces have as little influence as possible on the measurement result. A central internal thread on the operating surface allows different machine-related adapter parts to be easily mounted. As pedals tend to be curved on their surface, the pedal load cell has an extremely rigid base plate and is therefore easy to use on different geometries. It can even be installed on pedals with elastomer pads.
With a height of just 17 mm, this sensor is particularly flat and does not interfere with pedalling when mounted. Its diameter of less than 60 mm also predestines the sensor for almost any pedal shape. The sensor is bolted securely and stably to a suitable bracket that runs under the pedal. Due to different pedal designs, this bracket is not included in the scope of delivery and must be manufactured separately to be suitable for the pedal. The connection cable is specially protected, is held robustly in place by a PG gland and is certified as suitable for robots: This ensures many flexible applications in real, dirty and damp environments. Several strain gauge bridges are realised on the measuring diaphragm to protect the sensor against lateral forces in addition to its stable mechanics. The operator inevitably exerts eccentric forces on the sensor's control unit due to personal factors such as foot position, personal habits or different shoes, which must be compensated for.

- Non-linearity ±0.25 % F.S.
- Low-profile design
- Insensitive to side loads
- Measuring ranges of 0 … 500 N up to 0 ... 2 kN
- IP67 degree of protection
Task
The actuating forces applied to pedals under different operating conditions are measured during test drives on the road and in the driving simulator to obtain a human/machine response profile and to determine the loads exerted on individual components. The sensor used in these tests has a low-profile design to minimize any impact on the feel of the pedal. It must be designed to be insensitive to side loads over its entire surface, be able to track rapid load changes when using the ABS system, have overload protection and be easy to fit securely.
