This force measuring chain was designed for applications that do not require high accuracy but do require a very favourable price. Thanks to the sensor's strain gauge technology, both static (constant) and dynamic force curves can be measured. The compact design also allows the sensor to be integrated into tightly structured designs.

The sensor body is a flat, cylindrical disc into which the spherically shaped load introduction is integrated at the top. In principle, the force introduction should be axial and centred in the sensor. However, the spherical shape minimises the error caused by a force introduction that is not exactly axial.
A strain gauge full bridge is applied to the measuring element in the sensor, which converts the force to be measured into a proportional electrical voltage.
The IN-LINE amplifier increases this voltage to a standard measurement signal of 0 to 10 V AC. The design of the contact surface for the sensor is decisive for the measurement quality. This must be ground and flat. To ensure that it does not change under load, it must be sourced according to hardness and thickness.

Task
The tension of a conveyor belt used in an extremely harsh industrial environment needs to be monitored. If the force signal drops below a reference value or the belt fails, the drive is switched off immediately and an alarm is output.
