The pressure transmitter presented here is used to measure pressure differences between the two terminals of the measuring element. Differential pressures can be measured against a reference pressure, e.g. the atmosphere or the reference variable of a control system. However, it is also possible to measure differential pressures on systems that have a high static compression. A practical example is flow measurement by determining the pressure drop across an orifice plate.
The differential pressure transmitter measures in both directions and can therefore be used on double-acting hydraulic cylinders, for example. Its design allows the use of liquid or gaseous media. Ventilation openings facilitate installation. The robust design and the use of stainless steel allow the pressure transmitter to be used under harsh operating conditions.
To make the pressure transmitter even easier to use, it is equipped with integrated electronics. This provides the current or voltage outputs commonly used in measuring and control technology.
The differential pressure transmitter has a chamber for each pressure side. The chambers are separated by a diaphragm. Coils are arranged hermetically on both sides of the diaphragm in the sensor housing halves. If differential pressure is applied to the sensor element, the diaphragm is deflected from its rest position. This changes the magnetic resistance of the two built-in coils, which are connected as differential chokes. The changing inductance ratio is converted into the desired output signals by the integrated electronics and is available for further processing.
