The very short model 8656 torque sensor has a non-contact design. The torque is detected by the torsion of the shaft using the strain gauge principle. Due to the inductive and optical transmission of the signals, the sensor is maintenance free, the signals are digitised directly on the shaft and made available by the evaluation electronics as a voltage signal or via USB. Up to 10000 rpm are possible thanks to the premium storage. The direction of rotation is indicated by the potential of the output voltage; clockwise rotation corresponds to positive output voltage, anti-clockwise rotation is negative.
The shaft is equipped with keyways in each measuring range, suitable keyways are included. If no connection via keyway is required, the keyway can be omitted. The torque is safely transmitted using suitable couplings, e.g. model 8690.
The sensor can optionally be equipped with an incremental disc with 400 increments to record the rotary speed and angular displacement. This rotary speed/angle of rotation signal is made available as a TTL output signal.
The free DigiVision software is available in conjunction with USB; alternatively, drivers for LabVIEW and DASYLab are available for download.
Connection cables in various lengths, metal bellows couplings and mounting brackets are available for integration into customised systems.

- Contact-less torque measurement up to 7.5 Nm
- Built-in instrumentation amplifier
- Maintenance-free sensor, excellent value for money
- Suitable for use in harsh conditions thanks to ultra-rugged sensor design
Task
The torque characteristic in different detent positions of door hinges is measured over a preset angle.
Specific requirement
Keine Beeinflussung des Messsignals und der Sensor-Lebensdauer durch systemisch bedingte Axialkräfte.
Solution
The torque sensor model 8645 is used in final testing for 100% measurement of the alternating bidirectional torque characteristic. Slight axial forces inherent in the test station design have no impact on the stability and service life of the torque sensor thanks to the mechanical design and specific measurement procedure.
